Plus, a number of them require time away from the family to host parties and demonstrations, and the income is never guaranteed.
• Become a Virtual Assistant, Medical Transcriptionist, Transcriber or Translator – the reason I group all of these together is because they are all of a clerical nature. For any of these you will have to spend a significant amount of time on the computer. You can get full training on any of these careers online or by correspondence. The typical cost of training for any of these ranges between $400 and $2000. Most programs that offer training will also assist you with placement, which is a great perk. The greatest benefit to these alternatives is that they offer a steady paycheck, not unlike a regular job. The downside for a work at home mom is that you will have to Learn How to balance the kids and the job. Like I said, you will have to spend a significant amount of time on the computer, so getting the kids to give you that space might be a bit tricky.
• Take-along Businesses – What do I mean by that? Well, businesses that might require some time away from the house, but to which you can take your kids along without any major problems. For example, doing landscaping work, cake decorating and starting your own daycare, are all jobs that not only make it possible for you to take your kids with you, but might even be fun for them to join you. Hand the oldest ones a shovel or trimmer, and the youngest ones a trowel to help you in landscaping. Have them help you on cake deliveries. Or simply have them join you at daycare and even play with the other kids! Any of these alternatives will help you earn a bit more money, can be pretty consistent in the income they produce, and offer room for growth. The major downside is that kids are VERY unpredictable. So, you never know when assistance can turn into total mischief and chaos.
• BECOME AN ENTREPRENEUR – I know what you’re thinking. “How can I become an entrepreneur without formal education?” Well, let me tell you, this is the time to reinvent yourself. Do you believe in yourself? Are you ready to do whatever it takes to turn your family’s life around for the better? Then make and investment in yourself! This alternative will require a bit more time at the beginning, as you put on your entrepreneurial hat and start to fill it. It may also require a bit more money to start. But, think about it. When you work for others you are limited to their schedules, rules, and the compensation they think you are worth. This is the only alternative that will give you back, possibly multiplied by a lot, all the effort and money you initially invest. This is the time to believe in yourself and build for you and your family.
